When exercise and calorie counting prove futile, take a step back and make sure you’re eating the right food. Choose foods that fill you up and boost your metabolism. And don’t give up on the carbohydrates. The good ones are smart accompaniments to your meal, and you don’t need a lot to feel full.
Below are some fat burning foods that will fill you up and jump-start your metabolism.
1. Coffee – Consumed in moderation, coffee can speed up the metabolism and fill your stomach, especially in the morning. Its stimulating properties are proven to be a metabolic enhancer, helping to burn more calories than normal. Of course, taken black is best, or with skim milk and very little sugar.
2. Mustard – Hotter is better, like the ones found in Asian import stores, or specialty shops. Try Mexican, Indian and Asian recipes that call for at least one teaspoon to temporarily boost your metabolism by 20-25% for several hours. This means burning an extra 45 calories for every 700 consumed. Unlike coffee, mustard is healthy and can be consumed every day.
3. Hot Peppers – Spicy chili peppers produce a similar effect. As little as 3 grams of chili peppers added to a meal consisting of 766 calories can speed up the metabolism. Peppers are rich in vitamins A and C, high in fiber, free of fat, and low in sodium.
4. Potatoes – Contrary to popular belief, potatoes won’t make you fat. In fact, achieve rapid weight loss by consuming this carbohydrate. At 0.6 calories per gram or about 85 calories per average potato, this is a great source of fiber and potassium, and it is known to lower cholesterol, and protect against strokes and heart disease.
5. Rice –A cup of cooked rice of 150 grams contains 178 calories, approximately one-third the number of calories found in an equivalent amount of beef and cheese. Try brown or whole grain rice for a healthier alternative. Overall, rice can reverse and cure kidney ailments and high blood pressure.
6. Soups –A bowl of soup before lunch and dinner can help lose more weight, since the more soup you eat, the more you’re filled up. This reduces the amount of food (and calories) you’ll consume for the main meal. Try homemade soups that are clear, low in salt, high in protein, and low in fat. As well, studies show that soup eaters tend to keep the weight off longer.
The key is to fill up on the right foods to help melt the fat away. You’ll eat less, not feel as hungry and avoid the urge to snack.
