They’ve been at kindergarten all day. You got heaps done at home, did some part time work, missed them, and thought about all the lovely things they do. Then you go to collect them!
This is usually how it goes:
-Hi darling, how are you?
-Did you bring me a juice, mum?
-Did you mean Hi Mum?
Kiss. Hug.
-Oh yeah. Hi mum, did you bring me a juice?
-Yes, honey, it’s in my bag.
Rip open and snatch!
-Hey, go get your backpack.
-Ok, if I have to, but I think it’s too heavy for me to carry.
-Well, just put it on for now until we’re out of the school.
I hope she’ll forget about it while drinking her juice.
Then we walk home for 10 to 15 minutes…
-So, how was school today?
-Okay, but a bit boring.
She’s four and bored already?! What the!?!
What’s it going to be like when she’s 13???
And on it goes all the way home. When we get home, she says:
-I’m hungry, I want cartoons on, no I don’t want sausages for dinner, I want bacon!
And later it’s:
-I feel like chocolate.
-You don’t look like chocolate.
-MUM, that’s not funny! I feel like chocolate!
-No, you’ll have to wait until after dinner.
-Yeah, but…
-No yeah buts, you have to wait until after dinner.
-Yeah, well, how about a lollipop? (What*%@$%!!!!!)
- Ahh, no.
The debate starts and it’s only 5 o’clock. AHHHHHHhhh, 3 more hours till bed time!
How long till daddy gets here? Oh great, he’s just rung to say he has to work late. Bugger. Now I can’t even palm her off for half an hour!
For those mums out there who are going crazy with me, is this normal?? Yes, it’s normal. Yes, they’re whining, and yes, they’re all bloody doing it according to the chats in my mum’s group. It’s all part of growing up – Rats!
What to do:
Try to ignore it, don’t overreact, and just love them all to bits even though you really want to strangle them. Roll On BEDTIME!
When that time finally comes, they fall asleep and look so quiet and peaceful. You wouldn’t be without them. So you smile, give them a kiss and think, I’m so lucky. I get to do it all over again tomorrow!
